A Petition

So you define yourself as a blogger? A serious one, that is. You earn money through your blog. You are recognized because of your blog and all that. I’m talking more specifically about my Indian friends. Blogging in India is definitely on an upswing.

I’m done with the statistics. How many of you have blogs you have actually designed or maybe tweaked to suit you? I’m saying this because every other blog I visit, has the same wordpress theme we’ve all seen a hundred times before. The point I’m trying to make over here is that we need the blog to have an identity of it’s own right? Each one is different. I don’t know about you, but whenever I look at a blog with a ready-made theme, I’m half done looking at it already. Sure the content might be excellent, but first impressions count and you’ve lost points, which were not that hard to gain really.

Maybe you have no idea what css or xhtml means, but being a blogger and a serious one too, shouldn’t you take the time to learn atleast a bit? Maybe just enough so you could change the color scheme to make it look a little different?

This brings me to my second point, how many of you have actually tried using a different content management system? I think 90% of the Indian bloggers use wordpress. Was it because A is using it, so you should use it too? Or maybe your friend introduced it to you and you’ve been using it ever since. Maybe wordpress isn’t really for you? Maybe you’d like Textpattern or one of the hundred other CMSs available which might suit you better. Like someone said, we all have the freedom to choose what we want, and I don’t think many of many of us are making good use of it.

I know content matters at the end of the day, but it’ll definitely be pleasing to see every website with a fresh new look. Shift your focus from just consumption and maybe go do a little bit of production. Give back to community that has helped you. Make simple template and help someone who’s like what you once where. I’m not saying this for people who have just entered blogging, I’m looking at those who’ve been at it for quite some time.

If I had the time I’d have made some icons or banners to put up on one’s site forwarding this cause, but I simply don’t have the time, besides no one visits here anyways. Maybe I’m just speaking to the wall, but if you’re listening please post about this on your blog and start this revolution of sorts, so everyone can have new clothes for their blog, clothes that fit!!
